Why Visit Wells-next-the-Sea?

Wells-next-the-Sea is famous for its vast sandy beach, backed by colourful beach huts and a beautiful stretch of pine woodland. At low tide, the beach opens up into an enormous expanse of sand, ideal for long walks, enjoying the sea air and taking in the spectacular coastal scenery.

One of the pleasures of visiting Wells is the scenic walk from the quayside along the mile-long Beach Road towards the beach, with lovely views across the harbour and salt marshes. Once you arrive, the popular Wells Beach Café is a great place to stop for coffee, lunch or a homemade treat before heading onto the sand. And if you don't fancy the walk back, you can hop aboard the much-loved vintage-style beach bus, which runs between the beach and town during its operating season.

A walk along the beach or through the surrounding pinewoods is a highlight of any visit, with plenty of opportunities to spot wildlife and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

Back in town, the bustling quayside is full of character, with fishing boats, traditional buildings and views across the salt marshes. The harbour is a lovely place to explore, particularly when the tide is in, and the town has a wonderful selection of independent shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants.

Food lovers will find everything from traditional fish and chips on the quay to welcoming pubs and restaurants serving locally sourced produce and fresh seafood.

Wells is also ideally placed for exploring the wider North Norfolk coast. Nearby Holkham Beach is renowned for its wide-open sands, while Holkham Estate offers beautiful parkland, woodland walks and the magnificent Holkham Hall.

Whether you're exploring the harbour, walking through the pinewoods, enjoying a meal overlooking the quay or simply spending time on the beach, Wells-next-the-Sea is a wonderful destination to enjoy throughout the year.
