A Boutique Holiday Cottage in North Norfolk
We're delighted to introduce Mole Cottage, our newly renovated, boutique-style holiday cottage in the pretty village of Hanworth, North Norfolk, just a short walk from Deer’s Glade.
This beautiful 17th-century thatched cottage has undergone an extensive renovation, bringing together its original character, stylish interiors and a few lovely touches of luxury. The result is somewhere rather special for a relaxing break in the Norfolk countryside.
Mole Cottage joins neighbouring Fox and Hare Cottages, completing our collection of three thatched cottages, each with its own individual character. And now, after months of work, the doors are open and we're finally able to show you around! From the beautiful bedrooms and bathroom to the restored historic fireplace and private hot tub, there's plenty to discover inside.

Pure Luxury
We've put a lot of thought into making Mole Cottage somewhere guests can really relax and feel at home, with stylish interiors, comfortable furnishings, soft lighting and a few extra special touches.
Sleeping up to four guests across two bedrooms, Mole Cottage has been designed with comfort and relaxation in mind. The beautiful king-size bedroom has a particularly indulgent feature, a freestanding roll-top bath, perfect for a long, leisurely soak.

The main bathroom is equally impressive, with twin basins and dual rainfall showers, while the bespoke country kitchen, complete with a traditional AGA and Nespresso coffee machine, is somewhere to enjoy slow mornings over breakfast or a relaxed evening cooking together.
The living room is full of character, with exposed beams, comfortable furnishings and a beautifully restored inglenook fireplace taking centre stage. Light the wood burner, settle in with a good book or enjoy an evening together after a day exploring North Norfolk.
We've also added a few thoughtful extras to make your stay that little bit more special, including a welcome hamper to greet you on arrival with carefully selected local essentials; cosy Deer's Glade dressing gowns and slippers, perfect for a trip outside to the hot tub, and luxury toiletries to use throughout your stay from Norfolk Natural Living. From the furnishings to the smallest finishing touches, we've taken care to make Mole Cottage somewhere we'd love to stay ourselves.
Outside, guests have their own private hot tub and enclosed garden, with space to sit out, enjoy a meal or simply relax after a day exploring the North Norfolk countryside, nearby coast and Norfolk Broads.
And Mole Cottage is dog-friendly too, so there's no need to leave your four-legged family member behind.

Restoring a 17th-Century Cottage
Once part of Lord Suffield's historic Gunton Estate, Mole Cottage has a long history, and retaining its character has been an important part of the renovation.
The project has involved carefully restoring original features while introducing new materials, finishes and comforts to create a cottage that feels welcoming, comfortable and just a little indulgent.
One of the most interesting parts of the renovation was uncovering the cottage's original 17th-century inglenook fireplace. Over the centuries, the fireplace had been adapted several times, with layers of history including traditional bread ovens, Victorian fireplaces and a 1950s back boiler. Removing these later additions revealed the original open inglenook, with its exposed brickwork and timber beam. Now home to a wood-burning stove, it's once again a central feature of the living room.
Elsewhere, exposed timber beams, natural stone flooring and traditional features have been complemented by warm, neutral colours, comfortable furnishings and carefully chosen finishes.
It's been a substantial transformation, but one that has kept the character and history of Mole Cottage very much at its heart.

Somewhere to Gather
Mole Cottage is a lovely option for couples looking for a relaxing break, families wanting to explore the area or friends planning a few days away. Its arrival also means we can now offer something a little different for larger groups. With Fox, Hare and Mole Cottages all next door to one another, families and groups of friends can book all three cottages together, accommodating up to 12 guests. It's a great arrangement for family get-togethers, special occasions or holidays with friends, allowing everyone to spend time together while still having their own space.
Autumn & Winter at Mole Cottage
There's something lovely about escaping to the Norfolk countryside at this time of year. Autumn and winter bring quieter beaches, crisp countryside walks and the chance to explore North Norfolk's villages, independent shops and welcoming pubs at a leisurely pace.
After a day out, head back to Mole Cottage, light the wood burner and settle in for the evening. Whether that's cooking something delicious in the country kitchen, enjoying a glass of wine by the fire or relaxing in the hot tub, there's no need to rush anywhere.
With Christmas and New Year approaching, Mole Cottage is also a lovely setting for a festive break, whether you're planning a cosy escape for two or bringing family and friends together across the three cottages.
