With Christmas fast approaching, it’s definitely time to start making those Christmas plans. Whether you’re visiting the county for a winter holiday or you live locally and want to enjoy some local events, here are our suggestions for planning what things to do in North Norfolk this festive period.

North Norfolk naturally evokes a sense of magic all year round. We’re obviously slightly biased, but it is a beautiful part of the country with many places to visit. There are lots of things to do in North Norfolk at Christmas, especially towards the end of November and throughout December as we start to look forward to the festive season. We’ve taken some of our local favourites and nearby ‘must-visit’ events to help our guests (past and present) make their own list of fun family experiences. From lighting trails to Santa's grotto, keep reading for local insight into what’s available on your to-do list.

Christmas Light Trails in Norfolk

Luminate Winter Light Trail, Sandringham

The Winter Light Trail will not disappoint. It really is a joy for all the senses and for attendees of all ages. Now the Winter nights have drawn in, wrap up warm and take a trip to the Sandringham Estate, Norfolk's residence for our royal family. The enchanted journey takes place within the Royal Parkland grounds at Sandringham. Walk the trail to see well-choreographed light installations, decorations, and light-themed play activities. For some extra theatrics, the show is all set to music. The event books up fast, so book your tickets asap. The last trail experience takes place on Christmas Eve. The Sandringham Estate, which is an amazing experience in itself, is approximately one hour by car from Deer’s Glade. Dogs welcome on select evenings.

BeWILDerwood Presents Christmas

A light trail and panto! What’s not to love? Start your journey following The Sparkly Light Trail through woodland at BeWILDerwood. On your travels, you’ll see silly snowmen, curious Christmas crackers, and even a giant Christmas pud! Then join the curious characters of BeWILDerwood for a mini pantomime bursting with festive cheer. Visit between the dates of 29th November and 23rd December. If you do visit please share your photos as it looks super magical! BeWILDerwood is approximately a 28-minute drive from Deer’s Glade. You'll also receive a Christmas book.

Bure Valley Railway Noel Night Train

All aboard for a magical evening on the Noël Night Train! This special festive journey with the Bure Valley Railway is a true Christmas treat for all ages - combining the nostalgic charm of steam travel with twinkling lights and seasonal cheer. Running on select evenings in December, the train departs from Aylsham Station where there will also be a brass band playing festive favourites. Enjoy Christmas lights as you steam through the night. It’s a wonderfully atmospheric way to celebrate the season - perfect for couples, families, or anyone looking to do something a little bit different this Christmas. Bure Valley Railway is just 12 minutes drive from Deer's Glade.

Blickling Estate, Garden of Lights

Another gorgeous stately home offering a Christmas-themed lighting experience is Blickling Hall. The Garden of Lights is the Hall’s biggest fundraiser of the year. Begin the evening journeying through the magically lit walled garden, before heading to the Parterre illuminated with colour and light. Listen out for the sounds of nature as you explore, take in the natural scent of the trees in the illuminated Arboretum, and look out for tracks and footprints along the way. Delightful, magical, and one for all the family. The fun starts on the 29th November and runs until the 4th January. Blickling Hall is just 11 minutes by car from Deer’s Glade. Dogs can also attend on Tuesday 9th December.

There are so many truly Christmassy things to do in and around Norfolk this Christmas. Here are some nearby Christmas events for even more inspiration.

The Cromer Pier Christmas Show

Book your tickets to see The Cromer Pier Christmas Show starting on the 15th November through to its last performances on the 28th December. Described as a ‘delightful festive theatre experience’ The Cromer Pier Christmas Show is fun for the whole family with both matinee and evening performances. Now in its 16th year, the show is a West End musical-styled performance featuring an eight-metre special effect video wall. Plus well-known talent Olly Day is your host. The show takes place at the historic Cromer Pier, a grade two listed and 151 metre long traditional Victorian pier. A 15-minute drive from Deer’s Glade.

Father Christmas at Bakers & Larner

No Christmas is complete without meeting the big man himself in the lead-up to Christmas. Join Bakers & Larners in Holt for a chance to tell Santa what’s on your Christmas list. A photo opportunity and gift are included. Enter Santa's workshop for a fun-filled afternoon of gingerbread decorating, colouring activities, and all things crafty! Bakers & Larners in Holt is a historic jewel in the market town and steeped in an impressive 250 years of history. Holt is approximately 27 minutes by car from Deer’s Glade. Book to meet Santa at Bakers & Larners.

Pensthorpe Nature Park

This year, Pensthorpe offers two standout Christmas-events. First, the main event, The North Norfolk Pole Experience (29 November – 23 December 2025) invites families into a magical 90-minute adventure. Children meet Santa & his Elves, graduate from Elf Academy, make seasonal crafts, and receive a toy gift. The ticket also gives full-day access to the reserve, which includes play zones, gardens, wildlife and trails. Then on 23 November 2025, the Christmas Market opens at Pensthorpe, running from 10am–3pm. Entry is £3 (free for under 16s). Browse over 100 stalls offering handmade gifts, festive food and fun, plus you can buy reduced-price access to the reserve on the day. Pensthorpe is approximately a 40-minute drive from Deer's Glade.

Felbrigg Hall at Christmas

Throughout December 2025, Felbrigg Hall is transformed into a seasonal wonderland by the National Trust. The grand rooms are beautifully decorated with foliage gathered from the estate, Christmas trees, and elegant displays that reflect the Hall’s rich history. Each weekend offers something special, from gentle festive music and storytelling to children’s craft activities inspired by traditional Christmas celebrations. After exploring the Hall, visitors can enjoy a winter walk through the walled garden or parkland, followed by a warming drink and a mince pie at the Squire’s Pantry café. Felbrigg’s Christmas experience is ideal for families seeking a relaxed and atmospheric day out surrounded by nature and heritage. Felbrigg Hall is approximately 14 minutes by car from Deer's Glade.
